A Note From Ms. Ivy
Greetings Chantilly Families,
We are thankful for our students, staff, parents and volunteers who took their time to support our Beautification Day last Saturday. The campus looks cleaner and brighter because of your service to our school.
We are excited to have so many families visit and observe this week. We are eager to share our works with you. If you have not scheduled a time to observe your child’s classroom, please consider scheduling one soon. When you take the opportunity to share in your child’s learning, you can reinforce and build on your child’s experience in the classroom. Continue to read, attend parent events and ask questions related to the Montessori approach to increase your understanding. We need your time and talents by volunteering at the school.
Also, please consider visiting our school during the Fall Book Fair from Monday, October 15 – Friday, October 19. We have lots of book selections to help you continue to build your home libraries. Our General PTO meeting and annual Spaghetti Dinner is next week, as well. Join us for a delicious meal and meet other families from the school. We look forward to seeing all of our families visiting at some point during the week.
The cold and flu season will arrive soon. Our students have learned how to wash their hands during current or previous Practical Life lessons. Please take time to review proper hand washing skills with your child to help them support caring for themselves and others.

From the PTO President
This is such a wonderfully busy time at Chantilly! Book Fair, Spaghetti Dinner, Harvest fest, and the most fun fundraiser in town are all coming up. There are so many ways to get involved, meet new friends, and give back to our school.
Thanks to Krista Murphy and the several dozen volunteers who spent their muggy Saturday morning sprucing up our grounds. Garden beds were cleared and new soil was added, all to get ready for fall planting and garden lessons! No experience is needed to be a Garden Buddy, so don’t be shy about signing up when your child’s teacher sends an invitation to sign up.
Our next General PTO Meeting is Thursday, October 18th — right after the Spaghetti Dinner. We hope to see lots of new faces! We will bring everyone up to date on PTO happenings, including a close look at the budget, preparations for the big parking fundraiser, other upcoming events and committee activities. Attendees get to hear Ms. Ivy’s Principal’s Update, and we always set aside time for your questions and discussion items. Please join us!
Finally, I will soon be visiting both of my children’s classes for parent observations. This is our 8th year at Chantilly, and I always see something new when I visit. I encourage everyone to set up a time to observe. You will be wowed by what you see!
It’s time for Book Fair at Chantilly and our young readers need your help. Sign up for a shift or several!
Last Year’s Yearbooks Still Available
Did you miss out on purchasing a 2017-18 yearbook last school year? We still have a few copies available in the office on a first-come/first-serve basis. If you’d like to receive a copy, bring $15 (exact change or check made out to Chantilly Montessori PTO, please) to the office and Ms. Emily will be happy to help.
Thanks to a number of recent contributions, our school community has now raised close to $10,000 for the Invest in Your Child campaign from 79 families. We are awed by this fantastic support for our teachers and classrooms! Your donations will help to ensure that all classes have the materials they need for Montessori education.
Again, though, to furnish the new classroom that was created for upper el, we have increased our goal this year to $15,000. Even if your child(ren) is (are) not yet in upper el, it is important that we get this classroom fully furnished to accommodate all incoming children over the next few years. If you have not already, please help us meet this goal. Let’s try to get our school participation rate closer to 100 per cent!
Although we will be happy to take individual contributions and company matches through the school year, our official campaign will end next week, on Thursday, October 18, at the spaghetti dinner, where we will have a table for any last-minute in-person donations. If you have not yet contributed, please do so via check or PayPal (with the form here: http://www.chantillypto.
Thank you for supporting this important campaign!

The first 600 people to arrive will receive a voucher for free lunch and food trucks will be on-site.
Families can attend informational sessions and be entered in a raffle to win exciting prizes. The Novant Immunization Cruiser will be on-site to offer free immunizations to uninsured families.

Fall Parking Fundraiser – Volunteer Sign Up Is Open
It’s time for Fall Parking y’all! Who’s excited? Each year during the Southern Christmas Show located across the street, we allow cars to park on our grounds for $7-8 each, in order to raise much-needed funds for our school. It requires a lot of people power, but we do this instead of selling wrapping paper or cookie dough. This year’s dates are Sat-Mon, Nov 10-12 (includes Veteran’s Day) and Sat-Sun, Nov 17-18.
To fill the 160 volunteer slots, we need a slew of help. We ask each family to volunteer for at least one shift. No experience needed! Jobs include flaggers on the field that direct cars where to go, traffic directors on/near the blacktop, flaggers on the street, and cashiers. C’mon! It’s fun to help with parking!

On Thursday, October 18th we will be holding our annual Garden to Fork Spaghetti Dinner! This wonderful dinner is sponsored by the PTO and entirely free! The sauce is made by students in Upper El (sign up to oversee the sauce making below), decorations are made by Primary and Lower El students, and dinner is served by Chantilly Alumni and parents (sign up to help the night of the dinner below). Each meal includes:
– Salad with the dressing of your choice
– Spaghetti sauce (vegetarian), spaghetti (gluten free option available), and optional cheese topping
– Delicious, fresh baked bread made locally by Duke’s Bread
– Apple cider and water to drink
We strive every year to improve upon this fun event. Due to our need to plan for the quantity of food and to assure adequate seating space for our Chantilly families and friends, we are asking that everyone who wants to participate in the spaghetti dinner make a reservation. Reservations are broken into 20 minute increments.
Please, if you intend to come to the dinner, make a reservation. Reservations allow us (PTO) to know how many people are coming and prepare enough food.
The book fair will be open during the dinner and there will be a PTO meeting following the dinner at 6:30pm. Come to eat, shop, and support our magical school!
