A Note From Ms. Ivy
We celebrated Peace Day at Chantilly on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 in our multi-purpose room. Our Upper El students read five poems related to peace and harmony. Ms. Melanie shared the origin of Peace Day. We collectively sang our school’s peace song as we exited the multi-purpose room to our respective classrooms.
This is a friendly reminder for our returning parents and new parents! All visitors to our school must register as a CMS volunteer through the CMS website. Every person who enters the school needs to be a registered volunteer. If this is your first time volunteering, simply go to cmsvolunteers.com and create a profile. If you have volunteered previously, you received an email in July to reactivate for the 2017-2018 school year. If you forgot to do this, please sign in to the website listed above and update your profile. Any time you are visiting the school, please sign in at the main office and get a badge. This includes parents who want to visit our mobile unit, eat lunch, attend field trips, work in the gardens or assist in the media center and classrooms. One of our major responsibilities is to keep our school safe. We need your support with this procedure.
As a reminder, fall individual pictures are Friday, September 29th . The picture schedule is below. Lower El classes will take pictures prior to their scheduled field trip; therefore it is important that your child arrives to school on time.

It’s time for our fall Book Fair! The fair will take place October 16 through October 20 and our students and staff would love to have new and exciting books to read at school and to take home.
Ms. Christie and I are spending time visiting and observing classrooms. We are observing our compassionate staff sharing engaging lessons with our students. It is truly fascinating to observe how students have quickly adjusted to previous and new works during our normalization period. In an effort to share our observations with staff, we highlighted some of the exciting moments we captured and sent “kudos” to them. This supports honoring the work of our entire staff and creating a more cohesive, collaborative culture. Unfortunately, we could not share every positive moment we captured, but we consistently try to offer feedback in a variety of ways. We are excited to share our experiences with you as you prepare to observe at the school. Please remember to contact Ms. Emily in the office to schedule a date and time to observe your child’s works in the classroom. Keep in mind, you must register as a volunteer in order to visit and observe at the school.
We look forward to seeing many of our Chantilly families at our upcoming Chantilly Spirit Night on Wednesday, October 4 at the new Hawthorne’s Pizza location at 6215 Old Post Road. The school will receive 15% of the total sales from the customers who mention Chantilly Montessori when ordering. Please join us in support of our dynamic PTO.

A Talk with Trevor
Hey Chantilly Families,
I hope you are having an excellent week! Fall is here and we are already gearing up for Spaghetti Dinner, Fall Parking, and some Open Houses that will spread the word about Chantilly and Montessori in general.
Check out this awesome video as a reminder about picture day (Friday!) made by Brian, Asher, and Nora Yesowich. Have the kids put on their best outfit (or if you’re Connor, try to find a green shirt that matches the green screen).
Family Information Forms
Thank you to everyone who has taken a few minutes to fill out the Family Directory Google Form!
Enter your info here if you haven’t yet:
The Family Directory is a resource for parents to use to connect with one another. Because of privacy concerns the school cannot provide the contact information for your family. But it is incredibly helpful to have your contact information in the directory! When your child makes a new friend and wants to get together outside of school this is THE easiest way to connect with other parents. It is a vital piece of the puzzle that makes up our community!
Thankful Thursday is Next Week!
Thankful Thursdays are a chance to bring in goodies to remind our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them and all they do for our kids. And it’s simple to do! Families volunteer to bring food or supplies the first Thursday of every month. The next Thankful Thursday is October 5. For more information or to sign up to contribute now: click here. If you have questions, please contact Lauren Sawyers (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Chess Club Begins Friday, September 29!
Once again, we are inviting brave and cunning kings and queens in Lower and Upper El to join the club for weekly games and instruction. All are welcome—no experience necessary. We plan on meeting every Friday morning before school, from 8:00-8:45 AM, in the Media Center, starting on Friday, September 29. All members who are interested will have the option of playing on a Chantilly team at one or more of the three CMS team tournaments, held throughout the school year. Questions? Please contact lead parent coordinator Mark Wilson, at email@example.com.
We plan to continue our tradition of not charging any money for participating in this low-key, volunteer-run club, but as usual we are asking parents/guardians of members to volunteer to help chaperone the Friday morning club meetings a minimum of twice during the school year, if your schedules allow it. Chess experience is not necessary for chaperoning the club, and younger siblings (in Primary) may be brought along any time a parent hosts. Be sure to register as a CMS volunteer (to do so, click here: in advance of volunteering. Use the same website to log hours after each time you serve as a volunteer. Book Fair Volunteers Needed
It’s time for the most wonderful time of the year: Book Fair! We need your help to make this fall’s fair a success. Please visit the following link to sign up for one or more volunteer slots. The fall fair will take place October 16 through October 20 and we depend on having a cadre of volunteers to help our students shop and check out. This is a great way to jump into a new year of supporting Chantilly by volunteering. Sign up now here:
Thanks to a large donation this week, we have raised close to $8,500 for classroom materials, bringing us closer to our goal of $12,000. Yeah!
About one-third of our Chantilly families have participated. Let’s try to get that number above 50 percent, which was the participation rate last year. Please show your commitment to our teachers and kids by contributing what you can today!
Forms may be turned into the main office at school or sent via your child’s backpack. Again, if you still need one, it is available on the Chantilly PTO website.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks in advance for stepping up to help with this important campaign!
